Description Dik Takken 2003-08-28 13:48:32 UTC
Version: Recent CVS Snapshot (using KDE KDE 3.1.1)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
OS: Linux

It would be great if KStars could do the following:

* Have one parent window that can hold multiple child windows
* Each child window displays the same skymap, all driven and updated by the same timer, but with differing zoomlevels, detail levels or color schemes.
* The user can place and resize the windows beside each other or (partially) on top of each other, creating some sort of on-screen collage.
* When printing, the user can choose to print the skymap collage exactly as it looks on screen. So, you can print a big background overview map with some detail maps on the foreground.

These multi-detail maps can be *very* useful when locating deep-sky objects with a telescope.

While this would be a neat feature, I don't think I'll give it a high priority at this point.
The end result you want to achieve (a "collage" printout with multiple views of the
same region of sky) can be rather easily achieved by taking multiple screenshots
and stacking them into one image with the GIMP, for example.

Agreed. I don't think the not-so-geeky user will use multiple programs to create a collage map
though. So, it would be a good idea to implement as soon as the not-so-geeky users will massively
start using KDE, which may take a while... :)

Anyway, thanks for putting it on your wishlist!
