Description Simon Ejsing 2003-08-17 11:09:24 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.2)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux

My konsole seems to lag extremely when most of the console area is filled with characters. I'm using Gentoo Linux, but this same behaviour was found when using Slackware too. I'm running at 1600x1200 resolution with a fullscreen Konsole, so it's quite a large amount of characters (157x52).

The lag is so extreme that changing to another konsole (in the same tab-window) takes forever and mouse events seems to be lost I have to click about 10 times at the tab to get it to change. Sometimes it can even seem to freeze my XServer for seconds at a time. Also the Konsole is generating a large amount of CPU load by itself

My suspicion is that the font is causing this problem, however I've tried every font available in Konsole, and all lags. An xterm however does _not_ lag.

To reproduce, I just do a "find" from the root.

You dont do anti-aliasing for konsole font right?
Comment 2 Simon Ejsing 2003-08-18 12:32:53 UTC
How do I check that? And how can I disable it if I am using it?

anti-aliased fonts looks rounder . You can check what font you use under Konsole-
>Settings->Font only TTF/OTF fonts can be aliased. And you should be using Fixed
PCF font.

If I use "Terminal [Bitstream]" as font, it seems to work better.

But choosing a font from Settings -> Font -> Normal through Settings -> Font -> Huge, chooses
a font that's not available from the font list and which is lagging a lot.

This seems to be fixed in newer version of KDE / Qt / X11
