I would love to see kpager embedded in kicker as well. Actually I'm using it already some time and it is superb! I use the version from this location: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=6702 It would be great if kpager could be merged with this code. Is it possible?? There is another version around, but I have no experience with it. It is registered here: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7120 Just found it, when I looked for the other one mentioned before. Hopefully an embedded kpager will be part of kde one day.... Regards, RIchard Bos Subject: Re: kicker integration of kpager Hi, > ------- I would love to see kpager embedded in kicker as well. This is exactly what I mean! > It would be great if kpager could be merged with this code. Is it > possible?? I hope so. At least I voted for it at bugs.kde.org as you suggested. Thanks again. Regards Ingo Stierand Yes, I would LOVE to see this applet replace the regular pager. I've used the kicker-pager since it was released and I find it a life saver..or rather a space saver. It's quite nice. Is it in KDE cvs? The very first step to getting it to replace kicker is to get it into cvs. either in kdenonbeta or kdeaddons. Then from if it is pretty bug free and maintained there it can be swapped in. So the author should post to kde-core-devel inquiring what people think and if it can be added. There's a better kicker pager available. It's more stable and has more features. http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7120 its nice, but it is slow. and maybe too much features ??? What/where is it slow. I don't think it is slow. Give feedback on the kde-look page. The author is responding swift in responding... (meaning a new version). Tell him what you would like to have removed via a config option, perhaps it will be implemented. well, its not that bad, but its the biggest applet I have... see the kde-apps page, others have complained too. but its a very cool applet, although I think it should go on diet. kpager2 does the job for me, now. The kpager's biggest drawback is that there is now maintenance... Kicker Pager has an active maintainer though... feature count is not the score i'm interested in. i'm interested in a pager that is decently light-weight (kicker pager is not), which is performant and provides the most often required features. kicker pager is a cool applet, but is far too much of a "swiss army knife" style design (a "Run command" entry in the context menu? multiple pages of configuration?) for inclusion as-is into kicker. i have talked to the maintainer of kicker pager, we'll see where that leads, if anywhere. what would be useful for me is to know WHAT features are considered to be desirable. e.g. what makes kpager "extremely useful"? is it that you can drag windows from one desktop to another in it? is it the previews? what? for me, its mostly the two things you mention. the run commmand in the rmb is useless. yes, being able to drag'n'drop windows (and maybe from the taskbar and back, too, and opening applications by dropping them on taskbar/kicker) and the preview (isn't this where xorg/xcomposite kicks in?) would be great. great you are working on this/thinking about this! Hey aaron, thanx for making drag'n'drop in the pager possible! I just read it on your blog, but can't answer (as I don't want to register on blogger just to react on something). So I express my gratitude here... the killer features for me are being able to drag windows from one screen to another, and labelling windows in the pager with some kind of icon (which i find much more readable than a pixmap). i suppose if there was a neat way of starting up an application on another screen using the pager, with drag and drop or something similar, then that could be pretty useful too, but i haven't seen a temptingly natural way of doing that yet. thanks very much for your work on this, i'm sure the end product is going to be great. Yes, these are the two features that are most important for me, too: dragging windows from desktop to desktop using the pager, and showing the application icon for the windows. For me the most important in kicker pager is the visual feedback. What I want from a pager is to help me in orientation on the virtual desktops. To see the window icons and geometry is extremely useful for this. Also the transparency of the windows gives me the chance to find applications very fast. To this end the background pixmaps are useful too for orientation. Dragging windows is fine but not so important for me. I can use the window menu for this. With the latest feature additions to the mini-pager applet (including dragging of windows and showing application icons for windows) this report is obsolete, or? I think it is, yes. altough, one last thing: now you can drag a taskbar button to the pager. you can't drop a pager window to the taskbar! i sometimes want to get windows from another desktop to my current. would be cool... > you can't drop a pager window to the taskbar! Why would you want to do that? :-) > i sometimes want to get windows from another desktop to my current. would be cool... This makes no sense for all users as iirc the default is to show the windows of all desktops in the pager applet. And why not drag your window to the current desktop in the pager - it's even a smaller distance to drag? Anyway, if you're serious file a wish against the kicker/minipagerapplet. |
