I have an additional idea with regard to the suggested preview mode (screen shots) in the minipagerapplet: in order that screen previews are better visible, it would maybe be a good idea to optionally allow for the presentation of the virtual screens next to each other and with the full heigth of the panel (also when the latter is set to normal size). Proposed minipagerapplet layout embedded in kicker (4 virtual screens next to each other): ------------------------------------ | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | | | | | | ------------------------------------- Thanks, Beat Oups, seems like my layout got mangled in the web form, well I meant something like this ----------------------------------------- | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | ----------------------------------------- Beat See http://www.kdelook.org/content/show.php?content=6702 for a first implementation from epoch. Good idea, but missing a few things. I like the current one which just sits on the desktop (not talking about the pager which is launched from the context menu) it is so much smaller and I like having no icons or pictures of the desktop rendering all text unreadable. The simple coloring which indicates the window's position is ideal in seeing the general layout of the desktop and because of the use of only a few colors makes the text easy to read and because it isn't too complex they are small and take up little memory and cpu cycles. Therefore, I still want to have the option to use a simple color (of my choice) as the background and text color (of my choice) as well as a color (of my choice) that shows the window position instead of all the fancy pixmaps yet I stillw ant all the other features like drag and drop and window moving. In general if a good elegant, well thought out integration of the current kpager with all its features and configuration options and than some will find itself into the kicker I'm all for it. I also think that it would be a great idea to display the application name when hovering over a window in the kpager for 1-2 seconds. Another FANTASTIC idea is to dispaly the number or name of the desktop in the middle of a desktop when switching. Of course in a cool shadowed text. Okay I submitted a bug for both of my other suggestions First the idea to display the name or number of a desktop in the midle of the screen for a second or two on switching. This is particlualry useful if the kicker will have eal previews instead of simple colors and so text will be very hard to read. Vote for it here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60161 The second idea can be voted on here: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60162 and again is very useful because the pager is still too small to always be sure which application is shown. also have a look at Bug 58677: kicker integration of kpager As of KDE 3.2.2, the minipager applet is still not able to display the background of the virtual desktops. Note that his bug report is also related to Bug 58677: kicker integration of kpager. Thanks a lot, Beat After so much feedback I have to answer :) Well, thing is, I used all my spare time to fix KNotes after a year of no KDE hacking at all due to me being in Australia. Now, after some holidays I'm back studying in Munich again and do not have enough time to code a lot... but I hope to be able to improve the minipager during LinuxTag and probably a lot more during aKademy in August. Stay tuned :) Thanks, Michael http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7120 might be a look worth. I believe that this wish ought to be closed, as the original request has been implemented, and has been committed to svn. While I have not an svn-version of KDE running, I have read that the new KDE pager has the option to show the background of each desktop. Very nice. Does the new KDE pager also allow to show the content of the applications (little screenshots) like kpager2 allows to do? That would be great! See: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=7120&vote=good&tan=8931739 Cheers, Beat Minipager in SVN is capable of showing the background and application icon. But not the screenshots. Another one for Aaron. Kicker is no more mantained and all bugs/wishes will not be fixed/implemented in KDE3. A list of the most interesting/unresolved issues which is still valid for KDE4 has been created. Before reopening old kicker bugs on KDE4 Plasma, please try the new KDE 4.3.1, check the current behaviour and, only if you find new bugs or if you need a particular feature, open a new bug report. Remember that KDE 4 is a full rewrite of KDE 3 so some old features will not be re-implemented because the behaviour has be changed a lot on some sides. Thanks for the comprehension and enjoy the new KDE 4! -- FiNeX & D. Andres |
