it seems that the history size is always limited to the same amunt regardless of the settings in "History"

yes I can change the settings but it does not increase the size which is used
for history.

Increase/decrease, turning on/off, everything works here. "make clean"? :-)

Yes now it works ..
BTW Propably discussed already elsewhere.
IMHO after changing the settings on exit of konsole it should be asked if the 
user wants to permanently save the settings. Now tchanges are simply ignored 
and get lost.
