Description Havoc Pennington 2002-10-01 18:55:11 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources

There should be one standard user-visible concept of "the desktop" as a file location.
Then applications such as Mozilla and OpenOffice, among others, can begin to use
this standard location. Right now we have ~/.gnome-desktop, ~/Desktop, and probably some others.

This thread discusses the issue a bit:
http://lists.gnome.org/archives/nautilus-list/2002-June/msg00110.html

Here is the same feature request for GNOME:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94612

The main work here is to agree on what Home.desktop and Trash.desktop as populated by the desktop-directory-utils scripts should look like. Should be pretty straightforward.

just for the sake of mentioning it, there is a split in the gnome camp on this
issue as many of us would prefer that $home be the desktop.

Closing as GNOME switched to ~/Desktop.
