Att-1 Fail to install kde debug
Back trace from log files. May need others but not sure what to provide.

Description Volker Kuhlmann 2013-10-15 21:57:18 UTC
plasma-desktop crashed, up comes the crash handler, some debug symbols are missing.
No mater how often I click on "install debug symbols", that always does nothing and behaves like "reload".
The "list of files" only lists /usr/bin/kdeinit4. No problem,
rpm -qf /usr/bin/kdeinit4
kdelibs4-4.10.5-1.101.1.x86_64
Install kdelibs4-debuginfo with yast.
Debug symbols are still not found.
Sorry, can't file bug reports with this.

Reproducible: Always

Same failure to install debug package after ksysguard (System Monitor 4.11.3) crashed. Was doing the first Online Update in Yast after a new install of openSuse 13.1 from a DVD, on a Dell 2970 server. Happened while I was away from the console. Dialog box said it couldn't find the debug package for /usr/bin/kdeinit4 (deleted). In a search (through Yast Software Management) I saw no debug package for the base KDE or anything similar.

You have to enable the debug and debug-update repos in YaST->Software Repositories (or with zypper) to be able to install the debug symbols, as for the standard distro packages they are contained in those repos which are disabled by default.

Thank you for the heads up. Have enabled two debug repositories. Will report after next crash if the crash handler can install debug packages.

Apper keeps sending notifications, apparently about a repository I enabled:
Problem connecting to a sofware origin
File '/repodata/repomd.xml' not found on medium 'http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/UpdatedApps/openSUSE_12.3/'
Looks like an openSuse problem; I'll report there.

No need to report that.
This repo has been removed intentionally some time ago, its content is now in KDE:Extra.
Just remove it in YaST->Software Repositories.

I do not understand why this persists. Totally repeatable.

Additional info.

The problem occurs whenever I open either Firefox or Thunderbird for the first time following a boot up. Once this has happened, it rarely happens again.

You need to file these problems with your distributions. The symbol installation is handled by bespoke tech for each distribution and is not part of drkonqi or even maintained by us.
