Hi!

At least with XFree86 4.0 (maybe also with older versions) it is possible to specifiy some sort of linear acceleration if the acceleration threshold is set to 0 (try "xset m 9/10 0").

This IMHO feels much better and smooth than the stupid two-step acceleration method.

This feature is poorly documented - in fact I discovered it first while trying to hack this very kind of acceleration support into the XFree-sources... ;-)

My wish: Support of this acceleration method either by allowing the threshold parameter to be 0 in the according kcontrol dialog or (perhaps more intuitive) by a radio-button choice between two-step and linear acceleration.

Additionally for both acceleration methods the acceleration denominator should be fixed to say 10 not to 1 (which seems to be the case now as of KDE 2.2) that would give the user much finer control of the acceleration.

This is implemented in CVS now.
