Description Tanja Schulte 2012-01-28 16:43:40 UTC
Version: 2.0 (using KDE 4.8.0)
OS: Linux

Dolphin 2 lacks an option to show the file name under the icon in icon view mode truncated as it was before KDE 4.8. It now always shows the full name no matter how long it is which garbles the overall view, makes the row or column spacing (depending on the view mode) unnecessarily wide and thus wastes a lot of space. There should be an option to only show one or two rows of text (in icon view mode) or a limitation to a user set number of characters (would match all view modes). Sure it is a nice feature to see the whole filename - but it should be optional. The full filename with that option on should only be displayed when you hover of the file or select it (and you can see it of course in the tooltip and the sidebar).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
use long filenames, e.g. try something like "1-oh-boy-this-is-a-textfile-with-a-really-really-really-really-really-really-really-really-really-loooooooooooooooooong-filename.txt" in all view modes... It happens, believe me, e.g. for screenshots with descriptive name, to have such long names.

Actual Results:
the full filename is shown no matter how long

Expected Results:
there should be an option to limit the shown filename to a given number of rows or to set a stop size, a maximum amount of shown characters.
