Description András Manţia 2010-04-02 11:09:07 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Compiled sources

Some job notification when integrated in the system tray will have no text and seem to never disappear.
An easy way to reproduce is to click on an URL in a mail inside KMail.
Attached are the screenshots how it looks. Clicking on further mails introduces new empty notifications and they will go away only if you cancel them.

I've reported a similiar Bug to the Debian bugtracker at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=580229

copied the text here:
Package: kopete
Version: 4:4.4.3-1

After updating KDE to 4.4.3 the appearance of notifications from KDE
programs in the awesome windows manager have changed. Before that, KDE
notifications showed up in a large ugly grey box in the upper middle of
the screen.
Now, the notifications appear in a smaller black box in the upper right.
The new notification box seems to be the one that's provided by awesome.
So it seems, KDE has implemented some freedesktop standard stuff in the
notifications.
But the kopete chat message notifications don't have any text and
therefor are empty little squares.

András: does this problem remain for you? i've stopped seeing it for a couple of weeks now.
Comment 5 Thomas Koch 2010-05-16 18:19:03 UTC
I've made a separate bug report out of my issue: 237544
Comment 6 András Manţia 2010-05-18 15:38:27 UTC
Yes, I can still see it in trunk. Clicking on a link in a mail in KMail always triggers it.

SVN commit 1142924 by sreich:

change async call to sync. add some debug statements because I really want to nail this. fairly certain I've lost my mind at this point in time, everything points to this. I can't reproduce the bug after the change, either - albeit it is a difficult bug for me to reproduce, in the first place. whomever can reproduce the bug, please check as soon as possible and let me know...

It doesn't help. :( See the attachment screenshot. I got it just by clicking on an URL in a mail in KMail.

Screenshot of blank notifications.

I'm having some blank notifications being showed. They have no text and no icons. It's happening on 4.5.0.
Comment 15 András Manţia 2010-08-30 13:13:32 UTC
Yes, still happens with trunk + kmail from 4.4 when clicking on a link inside kmail.
Comment 16 Tanja Schulte 2010-10-10 15:08:20 UTC
Same problem here with KDE SC 4.5.1, Debian Sid. Notifications have no text, independent from used plasma theme. It's not related to one specific application, it's for downloads, video-streams and so on.
Comment 17 Marco Martin 2010-12-21 16:41:12 UTC
i never seen the problem again for the whole 4.6 development cycle, closing again.
reopen only if it happens with 4.6 or newer.
Comment 18 Tanja Schulte 2011-07-12 18:54:23 UTC
I have this problem with KDE 4.6.4. It seems to happen when I try to fetch a cover in amarok (2.4.1).
