i have only tried this with podcasts so i dont know if it also doesnt work in other places. 

dragging a podcast entry from the media source straight  to an external player like xine doesnt work. The podcast must first be added to the playlist and then dragged and dropped to the external player.

Fixed in v2.2.1-237-g58fb718. Soon to be released in 2.2.2.
