Thanks for the bug report. It might help if you could run Dolphin from a Konsole and paste the "ASSERT...." line from the output during the crash here (if there is one) or - even better - provide a more detailed backtrace, see http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports Thanks! Also, can you post what KDE version are you using ? What it appears to is that my Doplhin crashes everytime some file is altered or even accesses in my home directory (might be only when something is written to a file there). Either by myself or a a config file in my home dir that the system write or deletes. I think it doesn't crash as long as it's just a read. I'm using the KDE 4.2 RC1 delivered by the kubuntu people and I run 64bit kubuntu 8.10 (intrepid) I installed relevant dbg-packages for this crash from my ubuntu dist so you get a more useful crash report. PS. This is my first bug report so I'm learning by doing and hope this is sufficient... ------------------------------- Application: Dolphin (dolphin), signal SIGABRT 0x00007f1434ee75f0 in __nanosleep_nocancel () from /lib/libc.so.6 Thread 1 (Thread 0x7f14393076f0 (LWP 7791)): [KCrash Handler] #5 0x00007f1434e71fd5 in raise () from /lib/libc.so.6 #6 0x00007f1434e73b43 in abort () from /lib/libc.so.6 #7 0x00007f14359bf6b5 in qt_message_output () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #8 0x00007f14359bf7fd in qFatal () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #9 0x00007f1438d717d8 in KDirListerCache::updateDirectory (this=0x134cd80, _dir=@0x7fff41343820) at /build/buildd/kde4libs-4.1.96/kio/kio/kdirlister.cpp:609 #10 0x00007f1438d733eb in KDirListerCache::slotFileDirty (this=0x134cd80, path=@0x7fff41343a70) at /build/buildd/kde4libs-4.1.96/kio/kio/kdirlister.cpp:955 #11 0x00007f1438d782ec in KDirListerCache::qt_metacall (this=0x134cd80, _c=QMetaObject::InvokeMetaMethod, _id=<value optimized out>, _a=0x7fff413439d0) at /build/buildd/kde4libs-4.1.96/obj-x86_64-linux-gnu/kio/kdirlister_p.moc:94 #12 0x00007f1435ac4134 in QMetaObject::activate () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #13 0x00007f1438d85ac2 in KDirWatch::dirty (this=0x1e6f, _t1=<value optimized out>) at /build/buildd/kde4libs-4.1.96/obj-x86_64-linux-gnu/kio/kdirwatch.moc:81 #14 0x00007f1438d862c0 in KDirWatch::setDirty (this=0x13be2f0, _file=@0x7fff41343a70) at /build/buildd/kde4libs-4.1.96/kio/kio/kdirwatch.cpp:1670 #15 0x00007f1438d8678d in KDirWatchPrivate::emitEvent (this=<value optimized out>, e=0x19209b8, event=1, fileName=@0xffffffffffffffff) at /build/buildd/kde4libs-4.1.96/kio/kio/kdirwatch.cpp:1153 #16 0x00007f1438d8cea9 in KDirWatchPrivate::slotRescan (this=0x136ba50) at /build/buildd/kde4libs-4.1.96/kio/kio/kdirwatch.cpp:1231 #17 0x00007f1438d8d368 in KDirWatchPrivate::qt_metacall (this=0x136ba50, _c=QMetaObject::InvokeMetaMethod, _id=<value optimized out>, _a=0x7fff41343d40) at /build/buildd/kde4libs-4.1.96/obj-x86_64-linux-gnu/kio/kdirwatch_p.moc:72 #18 0x00007f1435ac4134 in QMetaObject::activate () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #19 0x00007f1435abea43 in QObject::event () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #20 0x00007f1435f63c3d in QApplicationPrivate::notify_helper () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #21 0x00007f1435f6b9ba in QApplication::notify () from /usr/lib/libQtGui.so.4 #22 0x00007f143742f3cb in KApplication::notify (this=0x7fff41344730, receiver=0x136bab8, event=0x7fff413443f0) at /build/buildd/kde4libs-4.1.96/kdeui/kernel/kapplication.cpp:307 #23 0x00007f1435aafd61 in QCoreApplication::notifyInternal () from /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4 #24 0x00007f1435adbab6 in ??
