Description Vincent Fortin 2008-12-31 21:33:23 UTC
Version: (using KDE 3.5.10)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

When I start a new application (this happened with kate, mozilla, thunderbird, and others), sometimes it will crash when I first use the keyboard. The application does not crash if I simply use the mouse. When I say it crashes, I mean it completely disappears, no dialog box appears to allow me to generate a backtrace. Once this happens, all applications will crash upon startup when I first use the keyboard, and this will continue until I change the keyboard layout. I use the us and ca-fr layouts. Once I switch layout (crashes happen both with us and ca-fr layouts), everything is fine for a while. Crashes can happen every few minutes or every few days. I have no idea what is causing this. I have KDE 3.5.10 running on kubuntu 8.04.1 on a Dell Latitude D820 portable computer. I cannot be sure that this is a KDE problem of course.

It seems like a more deeper problem. If you've application like mozilla (firefox?) and thunderbird, for example, it is not kde fault.
You should try using a new user account or re-install the whole system from scratch.

If you still have this problem you should ask on the Ubuntu forum, it could be an Ubuntu problem.

Thanks!
