Can you link the Red Hat bug report please? Thanks for reminding me. I had intended to do so: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=468110 I have updated to kde 4.2 beta 1 and the problem persists: "Too many open files in system" after about 30 minutes of use. It becomes impossible to save files or open programs when this occurs, necessitating killing X and logging back in. My mistake! I upgraded to rc1 (kde-4.1.96). I am also experiencing this problem, though it takes longer for it to manifest for me. I can keep an eye on when it happens by periodically checking /proc/sys/fs/file-nr, when it spikes I know I need to save my work and/or turn off compositing for the rest of my session. Is there any iformation I can give to help figure out what is causing this? To keep you current, I have switched to Fedora Rawhide (now F11 alpha), since the last 2 weeks and the problem has disappeared. I suspect that either the X server or the xorg Intel driver was responsible. Good to hear. A few days ago I was curious and switched the option "AccelMethod" in my xorg.conf to "XAA" and that turned out to be an almost solution as well. It doesn't handle Desktop Effects + Video and is noticeably slower and more error prone but it's better than XRender for people who don't want to switch to rawhide (just turn off Desktop Effects to play video). Fedora no longer uses xorg.conf (although one can, to force non-standard configs) and I prefer to keep it that way (one less headache for me to maintain and set up). I also had to turn off desktop effects, but now I can actually enjoy them. It is really nice :-) I am not sure what to do about this bug. It seems it only happens to Fedora users and upgrading or changing settings in xorg.conf solves it. To me this bug is either downstream or invalid. |
