Hi,

It looks like my installation of KDE uses at least two
different screen lock programs. One is krunner_lock --forcelock,
and the other one is xlock. The use of the latter is a problem:
it does not provide an option to switch keyboard layout once
the screen is locked. So if screen happens to be locked while
in a "wrong" layout (any one that does not allow to enter
all the characters in the password), there is no way to unlock
the session.

Which of the two program is chosen appears to be random.
Today I noticed that once the screen was locked with xlock,
the other time with krunner_lock, in both cases on inactivity timeouts.

Any idea on why xlock gets used by KDE at all?

Thank you,
Andrei

At the time of the initial report I did not realize
that xlock was used.

"ps ux --forest" shows that xlock is started by /usr/bin/kpowersave

Feel free to reopen the report if the problem still happens or is still valid in recent versions ( KDE SC 4.8.4 or higher). Thanks.
