Description Andreas Pakulat 2008-11-01 19:06:40 UTC
Version: (using Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources

Just plugged in my external monitor into my laptop and extended the desktop via

xrandr --output VGA --right-of LVDS --mode 1680x1050

Unfortunately it seems like plasma didn't detect the change or something similar, as the background on the second head is not painted, just a plain grey area. Also the context menu is missing on that display.

The dashboard-thingie that usually sits in the top-left corner is gone from the first screen as well after doing this.

I did notice twice now that at some point/somehow (not sure how, sorry) that moving around a window actually paintined a grey-ish version of my normal background wallpaper on the second head. But then after some more time its gone again to greyish.

I just noticed the "some point/somehow" seems to be related to opening/closing windows on that screen.

Unfortunately its not 100% reproduceable, but when I closed the konqueror window with which I reported this bug, the background shortly flickered showing the wallpaper and then returning to grey. After that, moving around the konsole window I have in the window as well produces the wallpaper anywhere I moved the window to. Then starting a new konqueror window reverted the effect, i.e. now moving any of the windows on the second screen erases the wallpaper back to plain grey.

This is still happening even with the kephal changes in trunk. The background on the first screen is ok, but I have two dashboard-buttons on it. One in the top right corner and another one sitting a little left to the middle of the screen.

I just realized that this one is most probably a duplicate of 164107, which already has debug output and so on. At least I assume a missing background is related to having no containment on the new screen...
