In kde4 there are two file managers: Konqueror and Dolpin so there should be a possibility to choose the default one in systemsettings' "Default Applications" component.

on ArchLinux x86_64 - Kernel 2.6.27.10

You can select both Dolphin or Konqueror, and also a custom app (configuring the apps for opening the "directory" mimetype)
