hello folks

i'm using 'iotop -o' to track the KDE process which are doing hd access with no user interface interaction, which probably indicates waste of power.

according to my results these kde process were the ones which most had shown this behaviour:
knotify4
kde4
kwin
(sometimes konsole)

if you have set APM for your hd, you'll probably hear many HD clicks which are the result of pdflush writing to disk as process had asked for it. 'hdparm -B 128 /dev/sda' will set it.

could someone cc these to the process' respectives mailing lists?

regards

I wonder if this is more of a general optimization issue or should be moved to powerdevil?

No response. FWIW there's an effort to prioritize the foreground app using systemd slices and cgroups. I expect the work to fully land in Plasma 5.21.
