Hi, can you please try running that from terminal, through sudo (ie. run sudo adept and try upgrading HAL again) -- as opposed to using kdesudo, which is I believe default on Kubuntu? I have seen that happen before, exactly with HAL post-installation script... I suspect a problem with either kdesudo or HAL itself, but it's hard to debug. : - ( Note that it might be useful for debugging if you first tried with "kdesudo adept" in the commandline and if it fails again, paste the terminal output of adept to this report. Thank you. Hi, can you please try running that from terminal, through sudo (ie. run sudo adept and try upgrading HAL again) -- as opposed to using kdesudo, which is I believe default on Kubuntu? Thank you. Actually, Jonathan Riddell helped me to reproduce a similar issue: when upgrading HAL from adept running from kdesudo, it gets stuck for him (not even giving an error). He confirms that the problem goes away when using kdesu or sudo. I'll leave it as it is for now, hoping that kdesudo folks can come up with a solution... I ran Kdesudo adept and it ran and freeze without a error report. I also ran kdesu adept and then it was working. however it crashed while I was looking at the installed files crashing saying I had too many files open, I thought I had only a few applications in Kontact open and the KDE System. I think this is a new bug. Wil;l try and repeat and report. See below. Error executing search. The exception says: Error opening table `/var/lib/apt-xapian-index/index.2/termlist.': Couldn't open /var/lib/apt-xapian-index/index.2/termlist.baseA: Too many open files Couldn't open /var/lib/apt-xapian-index/index.2/termlist.baseB: Too many open files Adept has been in the unmaintained state for a few years.
