Description Glenn R Williams 2008-09-05 03:33:15 UTC
Version: 1.1 (using KDE 4.1.1)
Compiler: gcc 4.2.3 (Ubuntu 4.2.3-2ubuntu7)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

When starting kfontview, either from systemsettings or on the command line:

kfontview /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts/andalemo.ttf

The kfontview popup window appears but does not display any characters. Changing the test text or from standard View to All Characters doesn't matter. Now error messages appear on the console.

Expected behaviour: Display characters in the selected font.
Comment 1 Glenn R Williams 2008-09-05 15:39:12 UTC
The line "Now error messages appear on the console." in the bug report should read "No error messages appear on the console."

Confirmed on the debian 4.1.1 packages (kfontview 1.1 also).
Comment 3 Craig Drummond 2008-09-18 22:36:11 UTC
This works fine for me, both launched via the font installer module of systemsettings, and calling kfontview on the command line. This is on OpenSUSE 11, and KUbuntu.

Are you using a NVidia graphics card?
Comment 4 Glenn R Williams 2008-09-18 23:09:04 UTC
I am using an NVidia card (GE Force 8600)
on a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop,

OpenGL version 2.1.2 NVIDIA 173.14.12
Comment 5 Nicholas Wilson 2008-09-18 23:22:16 UTC
Yes, and in fact the problem goes when using nv. Given text is rendered correctly on every other program on my system (including for example every other Qt application, and fontmatrix), the application must be doing something unusual.
Comment 6 Glenn R Williams 2008-10-08 20:04:52 UTC
1. I tried clicking on "Hardware Driver Manager" and selected use of the
Nvidia driver.

2. I rebooted and the system report that Ubuntu was running in low graphics
mode since it couldn't recognize my graphics card.

 3. I then set it manually and rebooted.

4. The resolution changed to 1680x1050 and kfontview displays all fonts
properly.

However, when I look at Hardware Drives again, it says that no proprietary
drivers are in use.

Still, I can now see my fonts! Clearly there is something with the Nvidia
driver.

Closing as an upstream problem, since it's confirmed to being a problem with the video drivers.
