Right now the places menu can have the icons in it grow or shrink when moving the slider. However, it'd be nice if users would be able to configure for multiple columns, either to set a new fixed amount of columns other than 1, or and option to make the slider change the amount of columns dynamically.

Multi-column view would imply and require a Places panel that's super wide--possibly wider than the content view it's connected to. I'm not sure this makes sense, sorry.

I don't know why it implies a super wide panel.

With smaller icons, it would be possible to lay them out in a grid.
