After starting with MS-DOS in 1984, some months ago I took the big step and became a complete Linux newbie.  I eventually built a very nice Debian system on a Toshiba S1800-700 laptop.  Some time later I decided to experiment with KDE.  I rolled in the KDE version 3.5.5 that comes with the Debian (etch) 4.0 distribution, only to find I had a bug.  I came here to report it, but found reports about KDE versions prior to 3.5.6 were not welcome.  I went back to Gnome.

Now I am running OpenSUSE 11.0 on the same laptop.  That means I have KDE version 4.04 - and the self same bug.  Time elapses at double speed.  KDE clocks up a minute every 30 seconds.  However, when I remove the digital clock from the panel, that cures the problem and time elapses normally.  If I restore the clock to the panel I'm back to double speed again.  

Two different Linux distributions, two different versions of KDE, the same laptop.  I do not have this problem with Gnome (niether Debian nor openSUSE).  Gnome knows what time it is.

That's really really weird.

Does the output of the "date" command (you can call it using Konsole) match the digital clock?  ie: when the time is going faster with the digital clock, does the time reported by "date" also go faster?

When you take the digital clock off the panel, does the time to back to what it should be, or does it simply go back to normal speed, but ahead of the real world?

Finally, do you get the same problem if you do

plasmaengineexplorer --engine time --interval 250

and look at the time reported there?

Adrian, do you still have this issue? Can you follow up and tell us if it works with a higher KDE4 version or can you answer Alex's question please?
