Description Jean-Pierre Viljoen 2008-05-04 19:39:11 UTC
Version: 0.2.2 (using 3.5.9, Kubuntu (hardy) 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7)
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.24-16-generic

if knetworkmanager/networkmanager isn't used for connecting to a network (if I put it into offline mode) and then manually configuring my interfaces using the 'ifconfig' and 'ip' applications, the KDE desktop apps (konqueror is one which I confirmed with) have no networking. I have confirmed that it is isolated to KDE desktop apps, as a wget for accessing the same information which Konqueror returned a "Cannot connect" message did return me the index.htm file as expected.

Steps to replicate:
1) Put network-manager into offline mode
2) Bring interfaces online and assign IP's manually
3) Attempt to access content using konqueror
4) wget the same content (just a basic index.htm)

Expected behaviour:
Networking applications should work, without regard of what the application being used to configure the network is.

Have found this is not a knetworkmanager issue but rather a global NetworkManager issue. Bug reported at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/229297.

Should this bug be kept open or can I close it as resolved?
