Version:            (using KDE 4.0.3)
Installed from:    SuSE RPMs
OS:                Linux

If there is both a horizontal an a vertical panel, they overlap so that the one on which I clicked last time hides the other in the corner. A horizontal panel should make the vertical panel shorter so that it does not overlap with the horizontal panel.

Some problems in plasma panel when it's placed vertically:
1. Much space wasted above and below clock applet. Also, there's no option in
it's configuration to setup font sizes, so the hour is displayed as big as the
panel is wide and date is displayed in minuscule size much below the hour (date
is not shown in this screenshot, but the described behaviour is easily
verifiable).
2. Pager is awfully placed in panel (just aesthetics, though. No harm here)
3. Notifier icon too big and disproportional, it grows until it's as wide as
the panel)
4. Wasted space below notifier
5. When the clock is clicked, the calendar is shown at a very odd position. The
same happens when the notifier is clicked.

in 4.1 you can configure the width/height of the panel, making it overlap or not with other panels is something that is the user to decide

Bug #187402 suggest to merge the two panels to solve this problem.

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.
