Description Rodney Baker 2008-02-28 14:56:09 UTC
Version: 1.2.4 (enterprise 20070904.708012) (using 3.5.7 "release 72.6" , openSUSE 10.3)
Compiler: Target: i586-suse-linux
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.22.13-0.3-default

In the KMail message list if a Sender's name includes accented characters (e.g. using umlauts) KMail sometimes corrupts the display. The sequence of events is this...

1. Open KMail - name is corrupted.
2. Select a message line other than the one with accented characters - name display is corrected!
3. Click on the message line with the name containing accented characters - name display becomes corrupted.
4. Click again on the same message line - name display is corrected again.
5. Select another message, remains OK.
6. Select the message with accented name - display corrupts again.
7. Click again on the message with the accented name - it corrects itself again.

It seems like something is causing KMail to toggle between two fonts or character sets - one that displays the correct characters and one that doesn't.

I will attach screen shots showing the name both corrupted and displayed correctly.

KMail version is 1.9.6 (enterprise 20070904.708012). The bug manifests itself running Kmail stand-alone or as Kontact/Email.

vperic and me couldn't reproduce this either on KMail from KDE 4.1.1. Might this be specific to the enterprise branch?
Comment 7 Martin Koller 2009-08-20 22:45:47 UTC
kmail in KDE 4.3 uses the new messagelist, which is completely different from what was used in KDE 3.5.
If this problem still occurs with KDE 4.3 or later, please open a new report.
