i use the standard panel by opensuse 10.3 and the latest KDE 4.0.1 and the panel consist of the standard KDE icons. klipper, media device notifier.. as icons: konqueror, dolphin and the desktop shower..
the problem is that i cant add any new programs to the panel as a new icon, like in KDE 3.5

i think you'll fix this soon because probably everybody has this problem.

you can do this by right clicking on the programs in the kickoff menu and then add to task bar.
BUT there is still a bug because you cant moves the icons inside the task bar.

adding icons is indeed supported. it's not as obvious as possible, but it does work. there are other bugs/wishes for moving/adding with more obviousness, but this feature as reported missing here does indeed work.
