How to reproduce:
Select some files, hold ctrl, and try to select a group of other files (not clicking on each individually, but holding mouse button down and selecting the group), and the old selection is lost; instead the files being selected shoud be added to the old selection (see konqueror on kde3, or nautilus).

This is a Qt bug. It has been fixed on the categorized view.
