Description Torquil Macdonald Sørensen 2007-09-15 19:13:40 UTC
Version: 2.5.7 (using KDE 3.5.7, Debian Package 4:3.5.7.dfsg.1-7 (lenny/sid))
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.22-1-686

It should be possible for Kate do the following two things at the same time:

1) Update the list of recent files in the File list across exit/startup.

2) Not restore the last opened files (those that were not closed before exiting Kate the last time)

It seems to me that it is neccesary to save the session on exit for Kate to remember toolbar-config, show/hide config for sidebar and "documents sidebar", and to not forget changes to the recent files list. But the problem is that files are then automatically reopened on startup, if not all files where closed prior to last exit.

There could be an option to store the config items mentioned above and the recent files list, even though the session is not saved on exit.

Best regards,
Torquil Sørensen

Without understanding the reason, it seems that my kate now does exactly what I want. The Recent files list is updated each time, and files that were not closed last time are not reopened at next startup. Kate is set to "Load last-used session", and "Do not save session". So I guess I should close this report, even though I don't know what I did to solve the problem :-)

Best regards,

Reopening again since I now have the same problem in KDE4.1. My kate is at the same session settings in comment #1.

This behaviour that Torquil is asking... is not a strange one, but the default one in almost every word processor and text editor.

So it's normal for people hoping Kate to behave this way. There could be an option to make Kate behave like this.
