Description M G Berberich 2007-08-19 13:39:29 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Debian stable Packages
OS: Linux

KDE does not use/show all fontvariants that are available by fontconfig.

p.e.

> fc-list sunset
Sunset:style=MediumItalic,Italic
Sunset:style=Bold
Sunset:style=Medium,Regular
Sunset,Sunset\-Demi:style=Demi,Regular
Sunset:style=BoldItalic
Sunset,Sunset\-Light:style=Light,Regular
Sunset,Sunset\-Light:style=LightItalic,Italic
Sunset,Sunset\-Demi:style=DemiItalic,Italic

gives eight fonts. KDE only shows four:

- Normal which is actually demi
- Italic which is actually demi-italic
- Bold
- Bold italic

So four fonts do not show up at all (light, light italic, medium and mediumitalic) and to be nitpicking two of the four are matched wrong (demi instead of medium).

I have this problem with a lot of fonts – nearly all fonts I have more then four variants of, which is a quite disastrous result.

Qt limitation. Direct your concerns to qt-bugs@trolltech.com

Stephan's suggestion is a good one, this is one for the trolls, not kde. I'll see about sending this to upstream/qt soon.
