Description Nils Kneuper 2007-06-24 13:23:13 UTC
Version: 0.12.5 (KDE 3.5.7) (using KDE KDE 3.5.7)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc-Version 4.1.2 (Gentoo 4.1.2)
OS: Linux

Using ICQ protocol, other users status messages are not shown if these use gaim as client. How to reproduce:
Have some gaim user in your contact list change his/her status to away with a message. The change of the status is shown, the message is not. This also happens with basically all other kinds of messages, only the statuschanges of gaim clients are shown, nothing more.

This problem seems to be specific when working with kopete to gaim. The gaim users do see my away messages, I just don't see theirs. Using my mac with adium I do see the messages correctly , so it seems to not be something icq-account specific but probably libpurple related.

I test it with pidgin, and Kopete can't see away messages as you said, but ICQ 6 and ICQ 5.1 can't see it too. It looks like pidgin (gaim) is using AIM status messages in ICQ or some non-standard stauts messages.

So I think they should fix it.

Okay, really seems to be a pidgin/libpurple problem, found some reports in their tracker about the same problem:
http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/582
http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/931

So definatly a thing Kopete can do nothing about...

I'm closing this because it's gaim/pidgin bug.
