Description Olivier Vitrat 2007-05-16 16:07:11 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Debian stable Packages

Reported at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=397635

When replying to a mail that has an original sender name that contains an
umlaut AND a comma, the recipients of the newly generated mail is broken into
two parts. example:

sender-address
 "Braun, Jürgen" <juergen.braun@materna.de>
gets broken to
 Braun
 Jürgen <Juergen.Braun@materna.de>
in two separate To: Fields. That leads to an email that is send to Jürgen at
the right address and to Braun with an incorrect Mail-Address.

When the name doesn't contain an umlaut, everything is fine
When the name contains an umlaut but doesn't contain a comma, everything works
fine too.
The problem only exist if the Name contains an umlaut AND a comma.

This problem exist in KDE 3.5.7 too and happens with umlaut and Norwegian characters.

Also in SuSE 10.2. KDE 3.5.5. Very annoying.
Comment 3 Øystein Olsen 2007-12-18 10:43:30 UTC
I have done a few more tests. I only see the problem when the sender uses Outlook together with a Microsoft Exchange Server. In the from-header the address changes from something like

"doe, john" <john.doe@companyname.no>

into

 =?iso-8859-1?Q?Olsen=2C_=D8ystein?= <Oystein.Olsen@companyname.no>

when the name contain Norwegian characters.

The problem is probably similar to:
