Product: [Applications] digikam Reporter: Erik Kj <erik>
Component: Preview-VideoAssignee: Digikam Developers <digikam-bugs-null>
Status: RESOLVED FIXED
Severity: normal CC: caulier.gilles
Priority: NOR
Version: 0.9.0
Target Milestone: ---
Platform: unspecified
OS: Linux
Latest Commit: Version Fixed In: 5.4.0

Description Erik Kj 2007-04-11 17:52:26 UTC
Version: 0.9.0 (using KDE 3.5.5-3.fc6, Fedora Core release 6 (Zod))
Compiler: Target: i386-redhat-linux
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.19-1.2895.fc6

When there are a lot of avi-files in the directories, the startup time is so slow that it is not possible to use digikam, specially when these avi-files are rather large
Comment 1 caulier.gilles 2007-04-11 18:34:15 UTC
Erik,

Are you installed avi file library to view these video files ?

Comment 2 Erik Kj 2007-04-12 03:29:03 UTC
Yes I am using fc6 together with the livna rpms, and I have
kdemultimedia-extras-nonfree installed so that each avi shows its first frame as icon. The problem basically started when my daughter bought a camera with very high quality avi's and sent them to us. I cannot run digikam on my basic directory with pictures and avi's any more

This bug might be related to
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=141132

It then might be the same bug as
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149267
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=145497
which has beeen fixed.

Could you try with
- Exiv2 0.15
- libkexiv2 0.1.5
- digiKam 0.9.2 (or from svn)
and report back?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Arnd

All the bugs mentioned in #c3 have been solved.

Erik, could you try again with current versions and see
if this problem is fixed as well?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Arnd

I close this file now. Sound like a local problem...

digiKam 5.4.0 bundles will use QtAV framework instead Qt5Multimedia to thumb
and play video. The Slideshow tool will also support video as well.

QtAV use ffmpeg codecs. It's multi-platform and will always available in
OSX, Windows and Linux bundles that digiKam team provide.

For Linux packagers, you will need to turn on video support at compilation time
and solve QtAV dependencies...

... is based on pre-release of AppImage 64 bits Linux bundle, just recompiled
and post to GDrive for testing.
