hi when i go to install printer click on add it loads up to 4% and 40% then freezes there will not let me abort or close that screen . this all happend after my update this morning .i'm new ex windows junky hate to ask for help but thats how we learn so help brother and sister out

Norman,

let's first find out, if it is a KDEPrint or a CUPS (the printing system for SUSE 10.2) problem.

* Is the CUPS service running?
  --> Point your browser to http://localhost:631/ and see if you get a web page.
  --> Alternatively, run the command "lpstat -r" in a terminal ("konsole")

* If CUPS is up and running, what is the output for the following commands?
  --> lpstat -p
  --> lpstat -p -l

Norman,

please do also tell me *how* *exactly* you started your printer installation procedure. I don't know what you mean by "go to install printer click on add".

This may be a thing that is specific to SUSE's own configuration tool (over which KDE has no influence and can't fix -- you'd need to report it to SUSE if we can't fix it here).

Please try to add a printer using this procedure (which is one of the ways KDE provides an "Add Printer Wizard"):

 * Use the key combo [alt]+[f2]
 * Type "kaddprinterwizard"
 * Click "Run"

The wizard that starts now is KDE's. Let me know if that works for you or not.

Kurt, Norman is talking about Yast printer module.

Norman, check if your cups is up to date -- Yast can only talk to the version is prepared to talk. If you change the cups version Yast will freeze while loading printers database. Use KDE Control Center instead.

KDEPrint is obsolete, unmaintained and will never be revived.  Closing all open bugs.
