This relates to KDE version 3.4.2 as supplied with Slackware 10.2. 

I wish to set a proper display name (ie hostname:0.0 rahter than just :0.0) on a local display. It does not appear to be possible to do this. In kdmrc it says that local display names are always blank. I don't want this and have always set a proper display name before. 

I can do this with xdm without any problems, by starting X as a named local server within the Xservers file. This does not seem to work with KDM.

There seems to be no documentation that specifically refers to this and certainly nothing that tells me the reason why KDM is configured so that it removes the display name on local displays. This never used to be the case.

Can you please tell me how to sort this extremely annoying problem out.

Apologies for possibly writing to the wrong list but I am at the end of my tether regarding this and have wasted literally weeks trying to sort it out. I just need to know what has changed since KDM behaved properly and how to change it back again.
