Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.5.3)
Installed from:    Debian testing/unstable Packages
Compiler:          gcc 4.0.3; g++ same v. 
OS:                Linux

I start konsole like user, then I launch New Root Session; from this any command to lauch a graphical application don't work: konsole responds like above or '** CRITICAL **: Unable to open display'. 
Rem. that the same operation like normal user works fine. 
It works fine even  as root directly.
Note that this appens with xfce DM (I don't know if its important or not, but it is 4 me).
I think the problem is Konsole tries 2 open a display that can't be open when in user DM.

This has nothing to do with Konsole.  It is related to the X server's security mechanism:
