Description Lars DIECKOW 2006-07-18 13:18:11 UTC
Version:            (using KDE 3.5.1 Level "a" , SUSE 10.1)
Compiler:          Target: i586-suse-linux
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.16.13-4-default

keywords: SI binary units prefix

Add to the fourth tab (labeled Other) the option group:

---8<---snip---8<----

File sizes and throughput rates
+--- prefixes -------------------------------+
(*) traditional system
    k = 1024^1, M = 1024^2, G = 1024^3
( ) multiples of thousand
    k = 1000^1, M = 1000^2, G = 1000^3
( ) multiples of 1024
    Ki = 1024^1, Mi = 1024^2, Gi = 1024^3
+--------------------------------------------+
+--- suffix -----------+
Eight bits are one
(*) Byte (abbr. B)
( ) octec (abbr. o)
+----------------------+

--->8---snap--->8----

Applications which display file sizes and throughput rates should honour this setting. The first one can also be called legacy system, depending on how much a progressive stance KDE wishes to take in this matter. The octec suffix is used by Francophones.
