Description Michael Reynolds 2006-07-03 22:36:25 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Installed from: FreeBSD Ports
Compiler: gcc 3.4.2
OS: FreeBSD

Konqueror parses http://0xcb.0x5c.0x2d.0x0b/ (an example pulled from a spam).
According to RFC 2396, released in 1998, the authority, 0xcb..0x0b, is invalid, as it is neither a valid domain name, nor an IP address. An IP address, as defined by that specific RFC, is a series of decimal digits, separated by a dot. RFC 3986, released last year in January, to obsolete that RFC, also prohibits IP representation in the manner above. While it is a rather insignificant 'bug,' it does violate standards, and offers potential risk to the less skilled users of the Internet. The 'bug' also appears in many other browsers, sadly.

Message from the Bugsquad and Konqueror teams:
This bug is closed as outdated, as we do not have the manpower to maintain the KDE3 version anymore.
If you still can reproduce this issue with Konqueror 4.8.4 or later, please open a new report.
Thank you for your understanding.
