Installed from:    Debian testing/unstable Packages

Error when compiling from source (latest version 1.3.91):

It seems that .la files are no longer supported, according to:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=354674

Please follow the instructions there to update dependecies (build-dep)

Sorry this seems to be a packager problem (so debian's), the only problem
gwenview can have is no to test if libXcursor-devel is installed.
The thread you've pointed us seems to show the all the packages with that 
dependency must be rebuilt....
