I have set a category to an album with few direcotry inside and just the main one has a category set. Consequenlty if subdirectory exists, a dialog should ask to set category to all subdirectory with may be an option for "only uncategorized album"

Since collections are going away in next release of digiKam (0.10) I am marking this bug as WONTFIX.
