Description Ivo 2005-12-03 18:54:09 UTC
Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.4.2)
Installed from:    Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS:                Linux

When I try to open a file using the 'open file' dialog, Kate crashes on certain file types (e.g. doc, php, z8, mp3, class), while it will readily open others (e.g. txt, pdf, png, java). This occurs even when 'preview' is turned off.

The files that make Kate crash can be loaded from Konqueror. However, when such a file is loaded, merely opening the 'open file' dialog will result in a crash.

Steps to reproduce:
- Start kate (from KDE menu or cmdline)
- Select File -> Open
- Walk through the files, either by mouse or by keyboard
- When encountering certain file types, Kate crashes.

The cmdline shows:
ASSERT: "m_currentContainer==container" in /home/sid-user/kdebase/kdebase-3.4.2/./kate/app/kateviewmanager.cpp (196)

Kwrite shows the same behavior.

This bug is now the 5th most reported bug.

Blame your distro. They are at fault here, not KDE.
