It would be cool if kimdaba could associate the images with latitude/longitude information. 
This information could be extracted from the tags of the image itself if available, from a separate GPS unit or from GPS log files retrieved with some other tool.
Since most cameras store the time in the image, you could easily search for a corresponding waypoint in the GPS data. There could be a wizard which asks for some waypoint files and then tries to find images which were taken during that trip.

The position could be used in various places:
- for a proximity filter
- to suggest location tags for newly added images
- to show a link to google maps or similar in the image view
- to look up location names from an external database

This sounds like a very good idea, but as long as I dont have a camera that supports GPS, dont hold your breath :-)

This functionality can now be achieved using the "Geo-location" KIPI plugin.
