Version:           2.2rc1 (using KDE 3.4.1, compiled sources)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.4.3

just like in the short description

when u boot up with the sound muted (from the previous session) the X indicating "muted" state in pop-up menu after rightclick on the kmix icons shows reversed state - it's checked when the sound isnt' muted and unchecked when the sound is muted

You have not upgaded kdemultimedia to KDE3.4.1. The version number of KMix shows it. The bug is fixed in KDE3.4.1 / KMix2.4.1
