Description William Kendrick 2005-06-27 08:56:51 UTC
Version: 1.1.1 (using KDE 3.4.1, Debian Package 4:3.4.1-1 (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.6 (Debian 1:3.3.6-5)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8-2-686

Some feeds don't have icons, or have the same icons as other feeds (e.g., "KDE Dot News" and "KDE Apps"). It would be nice if, in the Feed Properties window (available via "Edit Feed..."), there were a way to specify an icon (if the generic one is being used) or an alternative icon for feeds. (Similar to how one can change the icon of a file or folder in Konqueror.)

I don't see a need for custom icons. Which icons would you set there? KDE icons will include what you had in mind. Images are unusable here, and I don't think you want to draw custom icons for your feeds. I think we could have a better default icon though.

Well, as with files and folders when browsing my filesystem in Konqueror, sometimes I want to change the default icon to something more informative to _me_. (e.g., most of the folders on my desktop look like regular folders, but I have a "photos" one which has a different icon, so that it's easier to spot when dragging files to it.)

In Akregator, where there's a lot of textual information, it's often easier to pick a feed by its icon. I feel that the ability to choose different icons for feeds is _especially_ important when numerous different feeds end up having the same icon, as outlined in my original report. (Otherwise, why have differently-shaped icons at all, anywhere? ;^) )

Not only for feeds, but also for folders as well. Like Bill mentioned, having visual clues as to the purpose of the folder / feed is often very important.

Thank you for the bug report.

As this report hasn't seen any changes in 5 years or more, we ask if you can please confirm that the issue still persists.

If this bug is no longer persisting or relevant please change the status to resolved.

I admit I haven't used Akregator in a few years now, so I'll go ahead and close, although I'm not sure it was ever resolved. I guess there wasn't much demand for it, though, so I'll close this. Thanks!
