Version:           0.18 #3016 (using KDE 3.4.0 Level "b" , SUSE 9.3)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux)

When I whois a user in the nicklist, the answer comes to the server tab which is out of sight. I want the whois replies in the active tab where I can read them instantly.

Try disabling Settings->Chat Window->Redirect all status messages to server status window
